Program Taping course

Day 1 Treating without Pain

Including Taping, IASTM (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization), Joint Alignment (MWM) and Cupping by Alison Taylor (OTR/L, CHT, CKTI).

8.30-9.00            Registration

9.00-10.15             Review the concepts of Taping, “MWM” and Fascia (Cupping and IASTM)

10.15-11.15            Shoulder Tendonitis and pain, what is going on? Basic assessment of how it relates to the upper extremity.

11.15-11.30        BREAK

11.30-13.00       Elbow Tendonitis and Pain…what is going on? Concepts of Muscle Imbalance   and Joint Alignment. Linking the elbow to the shoulder and the hand.

13.00-14.00       LUNCH

14.00-15.15        Wrist Tendonitis and Pain, what is going on? Concepts of Muscle Imbalance and Joint Alignment Anatomy, Restoring Balance, Joint Mobilization Taping – Muscle and Joint

15.15-16.30        Hand and Finger Pain, what is going on? Concepts of Muscle Imbalance and Joint Alignment Anatomy, Restoring Balance, Joint Mobilization Taping – Muscle and Joint

16.30-16.45        BREAK

16.45-17.45        Hand and Finger and Thumb Pain continued – ADVANCED Trigger fingers, nerve pain, fractures. Alternative ways to treat pain using vibration, Polly pellets, wedges.

17.45-18.00        “Wrap up” Research Discussion, Summary, Questions

This first day of this combined concepts course will give you new techniques that can be used immediately with multiple “take home” tips and pearls. It will include significant demonstration, lab and video evidence to present the concept of “Treating without Pain”. This will include looking closer at the 4 S”s- Skin, Swelling, Scar and Sensation as well as joint alignment and balance. We will explore techniques on how to improve joint ROM, eliminate pain, and eliminate compensation patterns for faster outcomes. Current research will be included to support these concepts.

17.30-18.00        “Wrap up” – Research Discussion, Summary, Questions

This is day 2 of the combined concepts course, that will give you new techniques that can be used to treat pain conditions in the upper extremity.  It will include significant demonstration, lab and video evidence to present the concepts of muscle imbalance and alignment, and how it relates to tendonitis.

We will focus on the major pain sites in the UE (upper extremity) and look at alternative ways to understand and treat these locations. The whole sensory system will be included, and 6 physiological systems will be addressed to help restore balance to the upper extremity.  Joint mobilization and taping applications will clearly demonstrate muscle imbalance and current research will be included to support these concepts.

The concepts of Cupping (MFD), IASTM, MWM and Taping will be integrated through the day.
